I have made this custom front axle that allows the Lefty wheel to be fitted to a standard fork with a standard 9mm skewer.<br />

The bottom cup has been made to match the diameter of Syncros fork crown fitted. The Headset cups are fitted with standard IS-2 integrated heaset sealed bearings.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The heaset cups and spacers have been fitted and used for a few weeks to check everything is working ok. The cups will be removed and sent for anodising soon. The Headset cups will be anodised black with the recessed grooves painted in red.Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14225654935177927210noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628438001717842928.post-68548432373180867842012-02-22T14:14:00.000-08:002012-02-22T14:14:59.998-08:00Klein adept at the cyclocross I rode the Klein Adept for the last two rounds of the London Cyclocross series. The gears on my regular Specialized cross bike had given up for the season. The Adept does seem to be very... adept. Franky brakes etc are also performing well.<br />

The black parts calm down the shocking pink finish somewhat!<br />
<br />
I have found some black Clarks brake pads that match the finish of the brakes nicely:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSLHnkkJjy40R1wNI2WviOrJzg2pzSs5OOawO2DTT0BhYU5rc8Ttr-PWaXSQL8Roaz3sEgdJMcIPIXQp9bzBh5h_bY9o5UBFWaL5BBSwXfV2EqHu9y5fEboPdrUx0eAb9A3q8LSrpPplaa/s1600/Black+Brakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" gda="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSLHnkkJjy40R1wNI2WviOrJzg2pzSs5OOawO2DTT0BhYU5rc8Ttr-PWaXSQL8Roaz3sEgdJMcIPIXQp9bzBh5h_bY9o5UBFWaL5BBSwXfV2EqHu9y5fEboPdrUx0eAb9A3q8LSrpPplaa/s320/Black+Brakes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

The parts are back from anodising and now being assembled. Nothing got lost and the shiney black finish is good. The latest set of brakes are almost complete, they just need a polish up before being sent for black anodising. Here they are, just set up to check everything fits together nicely:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSLW6381e8Zp4peQO_zqtimqp62wfiBxP97IiyaLdojItDqs-C_5heweew7tYrTb7r7lP3N4un8MNrpmWvaUyYylqr-mrpTEchMXSyEZixOGU_6aAAmlNCFqH2JJgN7ewHhFAElhz-b4El/s1600/Adept+Brakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" rea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSLW6381e8Zp4peQO_zqtimqp62wfiBxP97IiyaLdojItDqs-C_5heweew7tYrTb7r7lP3N4un8MNrpmWvaUyYylqr-mrpTEchMXSyEZixOGU_6aAAmlNCFqH2JJgN7ewHhFAElhz-b4El/s320/Adept+Brakes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> Due to the unusual Klein MC1 fork steerer dimensions, fitting a standard stem and bars needs an adapter. In the piccy below there is the black anodised shim made to fit the MC1 size steerer. The brake cable hanger is also complete and topped of with a machined stem cap. All the silver bits will be black anodised.<br />

This is the same design as the previous set but with the CNC program tweaked a bit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiho5mP6rtoqktd6zCC5nws81LgfoNqYWi-yMAwlI9KRmjCXvj9BPzVXNQpMUjfO-7H8gfIdar9cDt-EixtBol18MARCD6dJmdKaBnDJsMr1MsUBIoYe9758BrV_auKFDYNiDQROjhZf95Y/s1600/DSCF2735+smaller.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiho5mP6rtoqktd6zCC5nws81LgfoNqYWi-yMAwlI9KRmjCXvj9BPzVXNQpMUjfO-7H8gfIdar9cDt-EixtBol18MARCD6dJmdKaBnDJsMr1MsUBIoYe9758BrV_auKFDYNiDQROjhZf95Y/s320/DSCF2735+smaller.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> The brake arm will be cut from the block with a bandsaw, deburred and cleaned up. The slot for the brake pad still has to be machined, along with a few other operations.Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14225654935177927210noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628438001717842928.post-7382216692415655622011-11-19T11:28:00.000-08:002011-11-19T11:28:58.703-08:00Quick Release Skewers - Complete :)The quick release skewers are now finished and in use. The final lever profile changed quite a bit from the original. The final profile is much more hand friendly. These will go for black anodising the next time I get some done.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Here is one such carrier in its new happy home, happily carrying cable:<br />

Material ordered today, but other 'inventions' are holding up progress on my next set of brakes.Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14225654935177927210noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-628438001717842928.post-58996546458087455652011-09-10T11:19:00.000-07:002011-09-10T11:19:58.212-07:00Finished Cyclocross brakesThe latest brakes finally fitted to my cyclocross bike. They are working well and stopping shouldn't be an issue this season, though going fast enough will :)<br />

Two sealed bearings are pressed in to each brake arm and 'spring stop' bolts fitted to the back of the arms. There are a few other jobs to do.... but almost complete. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The Hanger is clamped to the fork steerer tube by an M4 bolt that fits in to the round hole on the side of the hanger. <br />
